On October 11, an exhibition dedicated to the
economic and investment potential of the Republic of Buryatiain was
held in the Novy Manezh State Exhibition Hall as part of the Days
of Economy and Culture of Buryatia Republic. The region’s leading
enterprises and organisations participated in the exhibition and
the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal demonstrated its
achievements in the ecological field.
The guests of exhibition and the officials of Republic of Buryatia
learnt about the current and future projects of the Fund. The
President of Buryatia Vyacheslav Nagovitsyn, who have participated
in the Mirs at Baikal Expedition and knows about the Fund’s
projects firsthand, once again emphasised the importance of
scientific and educational activities of the Fund.
The Fund displayed the model of the Mir submersible and
demonstrated the documentary To the Depth of Baikal which attracted
vivid interest of the visitors. The film introduces the viewer to
the most important findings and discoveries of the Mirs at Baikal
International Expedition.
In an interview with mass media, Vice President Bair Tsyrenov
highly appreciated the advances of industrial enterprises of
Buryatia and stressed the importance of controlling the influence
of industrial plants on environment and implementing high
technologies to minimize possible harmful effects on the
environment. Developing ecotourism in Baikal Region, where the
nature remains untouched, may bring large Russian and foreign
investments to the Republic of Buryatia.
In conversation with the the officials of the Republic of Buryatia
Bair Tsyrenov expressed gratitude to the Government of the Republic
and personally to Vyatcheslav Nagovitsyn for the support of
ecological projects of the Fund.
