The third season of the “Mirs on the Baikal” Scientific Research
Expedition was officially closed on September 7, 2010 at the 6th
Baikal International Economic Forum.
The ceremony held at the Mirs on Baikal exposition grounds started
with an introductory address by Chairman of the Federation Council
S.M. Mironov. Organized at the initiative of the Fund for
Protection of Lake Baikal, this exposition gives an opportunity to
the Forum’s Russian and international participants to inspect the
legendary manned submersibles Mir-1 and Mir-2 that are soon to
leave the Baikal Region. Chairman of the Federation Council S.M.
Mironov, who also chairs the Forum’s Organizational Committee,
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for Protection of
Lake Baikal, Head of METROPOL Group M.V. Slipenchuk, and Chairman
of the Fund’s Technical Council, Head of Laboratory of Shirshov
Oceanology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Hero of
Russia A.M. Sagalevich spoke of the expedition’s significance and
answered questions from journalists.
More details of the completed research dives and quest for
artifacts will be offered at a press briefing scheduled for 3 p.m.
