Delegates of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal participated in IV International Conference Saint-Petersburg as the Sea Capital of Russia, Transport and Transit Potential held on September 20-21 at the B.Eltsyn Presidential Library in Saint-Petersburg.

The President of the Fund and Deputy of the State Duma A.N.Chilingarov emphasized at the plenary session opening that transport is of strategic importance in wellbeing of a state. Not only representatives of the Fund, but also many other participants spoke at panel discussions of transport and infrastructure modernisation and observation of ecological standards. The Conference has long proved itself as an authoritative discussion site where interests of businesses, authorities and public come in contact.

The Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal has previous experience in refitting industrial marine ships for scientific purposes. These include Metropolia special purpose vessel which was actively used in the Mirs at Baikal International Expedition (2008-2010).
