The First International Exhibition World Ocean 2011 started in
Crocus Expo in Moscow. This exhibition is an intraindustrial event
and covers the whole range of research, use and preservation of the
world’s seas and oceans. The exhibition was attended by
representatives of authorities, business, shipbuilding and mining
companies, scientific and non-commercial organisations, including
the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal.
Eighteen scientific institutes and organisations for research and
preservation of the world’s seas and oceans presented their
projects at the exhibition. The purpose of the event was to discuss
a complex approach to solving issues related to developing
transport communications, climate change monitoring, environment
control, preservation of the world’s oceans, its flora and
fauna.
Government delegation led by Russian Vice President Sergey Ivanov
visited stands showing the progress of Russian shipbuilding,
scientific developments and innovative technologies for development
of marine resources. “The world’s oceans are a unique natural
resource supporting the human existence. Today deep sea mining is
only possible if all the industries of economy, all types of
businesses in any way engaged in the study, use or preservation of
the world’s oceans establish closer cooperation”, said Sergey
Ivanov.

The Research Associate of P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and hydronaut Alexander Yegorov and the Executive Director of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal Roman Afonin
