On August 23, the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal,
which has been leading the scientific and research expedition ‘Mirs
on Baikal’ for three years (2008-2010), officially launched its
‘Mirs’ channel on RuTube. Starting today, ‘Mirs’ channel is
available as an open resource at http://fssob.rutube.ru. The first
videos uploaded to this website are related to James Cameron’s
participation in the ‘Mirs on Baikal’ expedition. Today, for the
first time in the public access, the resource shows an underwater
recording of one of the most unpleasant episodes of the whole
expedition – Mir deep submergence vessel hitting the bed of Lake
Baikal.
The ‘Mirs’ resource will host all the most memorable videos from
the expedition’s archive including the ones that have previously
been unavailable to general public. In particular, different
emergency situations experienced by the teams, mysterious
discoveries on the lake’s bottom, underwater life in details,
inexplicable phenomena around Lake Baikal, and many other things
are waiting to be made public. The Fund for Protection of Lake
Baikal is planning to make the ‘Mirs’ channel the leading resource
in Runet in its segment.
The video archive of the Fund for the Protection of Lake Baikal
that was collected during the expedition contains hundreds of hours
of recordings including unique and previously unreleased videos.
The ‘Mirs’ channel is expected to become an unrivalled web resource
in terms of the number of rare and unique videos posted on it.
