Delegates of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal - Executive Director R. Afonin and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Fund A. Tulokhonov - participated in a visiting session of the Committee of the People’s Khural of the Republic of Buryatia on economic policies and preservation of environment in the Selenginsky area of Buryatia. This session was also attended by representatives of the government of the Buryatia, authorities and general public.
Utilization of ordnance and hard technical waste and subsequent remediation of land in the Seleginsky area of Buryatia became the main discussion points of the session. Remediation has been on-going since October and its quality meets the requirements of the UN International standards. The land is examined no less than 2 meters deep. The total area of land to be examined and remediated is over 70 thousand hectares.
