With the support of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal
correspondent of the European cultural channel ARTE Vladimir Vazak
and Moscow correspondent for Le Monde Marie Jego met with the
Republic of Buryatia.
Journalists prepare documentary project “On the banks of Lake
Baikal”, where they will tell the European audience about the life
of the cities located near Lake Baikal. The main characters in the
film will become scientists, writers, and just the locals who love
to talk about their native places. Reporters have already visited
Irkutsk, Listvyanka, Baikal and Olkhon Island. In Buryatia, their
main goal – is to make the shooting in Ivolginsky datsan, Ulan-Ude
and Gremyachinsk.
The journalists’ questions were answered by Director of the FPLB
Bair Tsyrenov. On the question of Le Monde what for him Baikal is,
he replied: “Baikal – is a symbol of purity, is what Russia can be
proud of, and if you look into the future, it is my personal
opinion, that Baikal – is a place where people can be filled with
energy. For me Baikal – is a symbol of purity and energy”.
Journalists have received the film “To the Depths of Lake
Baikal” in French as a gift from the Fund, as well as several
publications, devoted to Lake Baikal and Buryatia.
According to the correspondents, they came to Russia not for the
first time, they shot a variety of subjects, in Moscow and in other
regions, but they are in Buryatia firstly. As a part of the crew -
the filmmaker Vladimir Vazak, correspondent Marie Jego, sound
engineer Sebastian Gisse, producer and translator Catherine
Svarovskaya.
