Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal held a scientific seminar for preparation of Lake Leman and Lake Baikal research

On September 24, 2012 an international scientific seminar for preparation of the expeditionary project for the nature research of Lake Leman (Switzerland) and Lake Baikal (Russia), organized by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal and the Research Foundation of Lake Leman (eLEMO) took place in Moscow.

Chairman of the FPLB Board of Trustees Mikhail Slipenchuk, dean of the Faculty of Geography of the Moscow State University, Academician Nikolay Kassimov, director of the Baikal Institute of Nature Management of the Russian Academy of Sciences, corresponding member of Russian Academy of Sciences, Arnold Tulokhonov, employees of the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University, Professor Ulrich Lemmin and Alfred (Switzerland), Dr. Davis Tuija (France), as well as representatives of the Russian Corporation “Roscosmos” and the RGS attended the meeting. During the seminar the participants discussed the scientific program of the nature research of Lake Baikal and Lake Leman with use of ultra light aircraft (start of the project in 2013).

In his speech, M. Slipenchuk noted that this project should be a breakthrough in the science – new methods, new approaches, and new equipment. And, of course, the preparation of the expedition requires experience of scientists from France and Switzerland.

The international expedition project will involve Geography Faculty of Moscow State University, Baikal Institute of Nature Sciences, St. Petersburg Meteorological University, Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (Switzerland) and other well-known European research institutes.

The next meeting of Russian, Swiss and French scientists on this project is scheduled for October 2012 in Switzerland.
