On 8-9 July, the events, devoted to the beginning of work expedition at Lake Baikal “Trans-Eurasian flight Leman – Baikal” took place in the townships Gremyachinsk and Turka (Baikal region of the Republic of Buryatia).
On 8 July the demonstration flights for representatives of national media were held. Journalists were able to talk with the ULM pilots, and also climb into the sky at these ULMs. On 9 July the members of the International Scientific Conference “Baikal - a strategic resource of the planet in the XXI Century”, organized by the Administration of the Government of the Republic of Buryatia, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal with the support of the Group “METROPOL”, had the opportunity with the ULM possibilities.
The press conference of the organizers and participants of the expedition took place in the hotel “Baikal Riviera” in Gremyachinsk. The conference was attended by: the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the FPLB Board of Trustees, Professor Mikhail Slipenchuk, the First Vice-president of the RGS, dean of the Faculty of Geography of the Moscow State University, Academician Nikolai Kasimov, Vice-president of FPLB Bair Tsyrenov, technical consultant of the project François Bernard (France), project manager of the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation in Lausanne (Switzerland) Mikhail Krasnopyorov. They answered numerous questions from the federal and regional media.
Mikhail Slipenchuk, in particular, noted that the expedition project, aimed at drawing attention to environmental problems in the Baikal region, has a strong scientific program developed by leading Russian and Swiss scientists. “According to the results of the expedition “Mirs at Lake Baikal” we can say that the depth of Lake Baikal have been investigated quite thoroughly, but the air space of the lake is not explored in detail yet. We are planning to hold a major three-year complex of scientific researches with the ULM, both in Russia and abroad”, - said the deputy.
