During the entire anniversary year of 2011, Buryatia hosts events and celebrations dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Buryatia joining Russia. This celebration of this event took place together with a significant museum project at the National Buryatia Museum. This unique project is named 350 Years with Russia and its spatial and artistic design (created by honored artist of Russia Balzhinima Dorzhiyev) combines installations depicting certain historic epochs and objects associated with them. The main goal of the exhibition is to present historic processes that took place in Buryatia from ancient times till now.
The Ancient Buryatia exhibition presents household objects, weapons and armor reflecting cultural heritage of the early nomad time. The exhibition Buryatia Joins Russia shows military arts of Buryats and Cossacks in the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries, construction of homes and trading places, household life of Russian old-timers and Evenks. The process of Buryatia's joining Russia is illustrated with historical documents, maps and engravings. The exhibit Buryatia Now tells about economic and cultural development, language and religion in Buryatia at the present time. One of the largest projects of the last decade is the MIRS on BAIKAL international expedition and other projects of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal. The Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal and its founder METROPOL Group are the co-organizers and financial partners of the exhibition.
The exhibit presents unique museum objects which were not exhibited earlier. About one thousand items of spiritual and material culture and art work are being exhibited.
