The Round Table Discussion “Protection and Rational Management of Lake Baikal’s Ecosystem”, organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Irkutsk Region with support from the Federation Council Committee on Natural Resources and Protection of the Environment within the framework of the 6th Baikal International Economic Forum, attracted large numbers of participants, guests and mass media representatives. For more than four hours experts spoke on the most vital topics in the field of protection legislation, subsoil exploitation, environment, and innovation technologies applied in research and exploration of natural resources. The audience took particular interest in the reports of Director of the Baikal Institute for Nature Management, Member of the Scientific Council of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences А.К. Tulokhonov, and Director of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal B.D. Tsyrenov. Commenting on the results of the “Mirs in Baikal” International Scientific Research Expedition, Presidium members V.E. Matkhanov (member of the RF State Duma Committee on Natural Resources and Environment) and O.Yu. Gaykov (Minister of Natural Resources of the Irkutsk Region) stressed the uniqueness of the expedition and its huge significance for the Baikal region and Russia in general.
