Another scientific stage of the expedition has finished at Lake Baikal

On 1 August another phase of the first season researches of the international expedition “Trans-Eurasian flight Leman Lake-Baikal”, organized by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal, the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (Switzerland), Exploration of the Lake Leman waters eLEMO (Switzerland), the Honorary Consulate of Russian Federation in Lausanne (Switzerland), the Group “METROPOL”, International biopharmaceutical company FERRING (Switzerland) with the support of the Russian Geographical society and the geographical Faculty of Moscow State University, has finished.

During the flights over Lake Baikal the Swiss and Russian scientists have discovered water unidentified objects. Josef Akhtman, a researcher from the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne, described the discovery as follows: “During a regular flight, we saw on the water surface some structure without a ripple. With confidence I can say that this is an anomaly in the morphology of the water surface. If weather conditions permit, we will make another flight in order to study this phenomenon”.

A few days ago a delegation from the Ministry of Nature and Environment of Mongolia came to the Republic of Buryatia to make the acquaintance of the expedition activity. The scientists of the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne made a presentation of the expedition Leman-Baikal. The representatives of the Mongolian delegation expressed interest in the expedition, in the methodology and experience of the Russian and Swiss researchers and invited them in Mongolia next year to study the environmental situation in the Mongolian territory. In particular, the representative of the Mongolian organization, that monitors compliance with environmental regulations and fights environmental crime, spoke about the importance of the ULM use. According to him, a monitoring of area using ULM can be very efficient, it will help prevent a huge amount of damage caused to the environment each year.
