A discussion panel Initiatives of non-commercial organisations and educational institutions in promoting environmental consciousness was held at the Second All-Russia Conference on Environmental Education on November 26. The participants included representatives of environmental educational institutions, international and local ecological organisation, including the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal.
At the discussion panel I.Yu. Krylova, the Deputy Director of the Fund, made a presentation Baikal Environmental Youth Movement. She told the participants of the new project of the Fund to create a youth ecological movement in Baikal region. This future centre for efficient ecology initiatives will be a completely new union of a number of successful and growing local and international environmental projects. Its main tasks will be to give environmental education, to organise mass environmental actions and to create a new informational system.
Environmental education will take an important place in the activity of the movement. The intention is that the movement will with the support of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal adapt distance programmes for ecological educational, organise international videoconferences, webinars, innovative Internet projects of students and make various media products (audio, video and publishing).
