In 2012, the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal became an organizational partner of the annual festival of water sport “Baikal wind”, which is traditionally held in the Bay Possolskiy sor, near the walls of the ancient Transfiguration Monastery. The Federation of extreme sport and travel of the Republic of Buryatia “Baikal extreme”, with the support of the National Agency for Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Buryatia and the administration of Kabanskiy region, “MegaFon” company and “Metropol Express” also became the organizers of the sport event.

More than 100 athletes from the Trans-Baikal and Krasnoyarsk territories, the Irkutsk region and Buryatia, took part in the festival, the main objectives of which are to promote healthy lifestyles, to improve sports skills, and to promote adventure sports.

Despite the uncertain weather, program of competitions has been fully implemented for three days. The winners in competitions in kite surfing, windsurfing, sailing, padding and beach volleyball were determined.

The Festival combines the main directions of young audience’s interests - music and extreme sports - the well-known bands and DJs were performed for the participants and spectators, master classes in capoeira, hatha yoga and Latin dance were held.

On behalf of the FPLB the winners were awarded by special prizes, and the Federation “Baikal-extreme” presented them diplomas with the title “Defender of Lake Baikal”.
