The Second All-Russia Conference on Environmental Education organised by Greenlight, an international environmental organisation, and supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation opened on November 25. Representatives of authorities, scientific and non-commercial organisations from 69 regions of Russia were invited to participate in the conference.
The conference started with a plenary session led by V.A. Grachyov, the Chairman of Permanent Organising Committee of the Conference and corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Gizatulin Rinat Rinatovich, the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, greeted the participants at the conference. The first presentation was made by N.S. Kasimov, member of the Scientific Board of the Fund, Dean of Geography Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The participants spoke of modernisation and introduction of foreign experience in the Russian environmental education. They also discussed the role of the environmental education in growing environmental responsibility.
The film To the Depth of Baikal was demonstrated to the participants of the conference as an educative product allowing to foster environmental consciousness of children and adults. This film describes unique discoveries of the International Scientific Expedition Mirs at Baikal organised by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal.
