On March 22 the 5th Olympiad Connoisseurs of Lake Baikal, organized by the ecological school Ecos with support of the Fund for protection of Lake Baikal, Baikal Institute of Nature Management of SB RAS and the State Natural Biosphere Reserve Barguzin, took place at the Palace of children creativity in Ulan-Ude.

Increase of knowledge about Lake Baikal, involvement of children in environmental activities and simply experience exchange – are the tasks that were raised and successfully resolved by the organizers of the Olympiad.

More than 250 people took part in the Olympiad Connoisseurs of Lake Baikal. The city schools’ pupils were able to test their knowledge about Lake Baikal. The prizes to the winners were presented by Director of the Baikal Institute of Nature Management of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Arnold Tulokhonov.

The project draft of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal People vote: 100 Wonders of Lake Baikal was presented to the Olimpiad participants.

As Director of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal Boris Danilov said: “We must carefully and tenderly refer to what we have. Lake Baikal is a world heritage”. And except ordinary knowledge of it we should be decent people, and be prepared to live in harmony with nature, to protect its unique flora and fauna”.
